Want A Good Book?

Just thought I'd share with you an excellent book on directing. Quality advice on directing is hard to find and when something good comes along, snap it up. Actually, this book isn't new, I read it in college back in the early 90's. It is called "Sense of Direction: Some Observations on the Art of Directing" by William Ball.

You can find a link to it in the Books store on this site.

This book influenced me the most as I was developing my directing style. I think that every actor who desires to direct should read it. What I feel that William Ball does, that's most important, is help to define the line between Director and Actor.

To many times actors, just starting out as directors, try to direct by acting it out. Through no fault of their own, that's what they are used to, but that approach severely limits an actors creativity. They feel like the have to copy the director. Mr. Ball gives practical advice on how to be a pure Director and not an "acting director", if you will. It may be hard to take if you're not used to it, but the effort will pay off ten-fold.

Take it to heart! It really will bring the most out of your actors!
